The calf muscle complex plays a significant role in terms of running. Surprisingly, however, very few runners take the time to build strength and capacity of this muscle group. The soleus, which comprises a portion of the CMC, is particularly important for running considering that it is a single joint muscle coupled with the fact that the gastroc is typically on slack during running since the knee is never straight.
