Calf Raises for Chronic Ankle | Foot Pain [NJ’s Expert Chiropractor]

Calf Raises are the #1 exercise we give our chronic and ankle foot pain patients who have had pain over 6 months and seen at least 3 doctors or therapists without relief.

Your deep calf muscles (tibialis posterior, flexor digitorum longus, and flexor hallucis longus) attach to the bottom of the foot and must be strong in order to prevent the inside of the ankle from caving in.

The Calf Raises must be 0 to 2 out of 10 on the pain scale. Any more than that and you’re risking more damage.

Do them barefoot and on the floor. After you can do 2 sets of 15 reps daily without any pain and with relative ease, move your toes to a stair and let your heels drop even further.

Even when your chronic ankle or foot pain is pain-free, keep doing these at least 3 times a day. Failure to keep up with these calf raises and the strength improvements will allow the chronic ankle or foot pain to come back.
